The Council is responsible for over 22,000 lighting units and cannot ensure that all lights are working at all times, therefore we welcome telephone calls from members of the public advising us of defective lights.

When making a report:

  • Identify the lamp post by reference number.
  • Name of Street, Town/ Village
  • Location / address and if at front or rear of property

The following faults are classed as emergency repairs for which there is a one hour response time:

  • Door off (cover on base of column)
  • 5 or more lights off in a row
  • Lights not working at critically hazardous road junctions or features
  • Lantern damaged
  • Bowl hanging
  • Column, illuminated sign or traffic signal knockdown
  • Exposed cables
  • Underground cable damaged (caused by contractors)
