Housing benefit and council tax reduction for residents of Humberston fitties
Explanation of the qualifying criteria for receipt of housing benefit and council tax reduction for customers living in a Humberston fitties chalet.
A person who owns or rents a property on the fitties is liable to pay ground rent. This includes a service charge, water and sewerage charge and VAT. Any increases in these charges or major changes are subject to council committee decisions.
Housing benefit can be paid on the rental part of the charge made, which includes the ground rent itself, the VAT and the service charge. The water and sewerage are not eligible charges.
Housing benefit can also be paid to residents who are renting the chalet from the owner. In both of these cases payments of housing benefit and council tax reduction are awarded using the following rules:
- Where customers do not make a claim elsewhere they will be entitled to continuous benefit at the fitties using the rules of temporary absence
- Where customers make a claim elsewhere they will only be entitled to benefit at one address
