If your child is eligible for two year old funding they can access up to 15 hours per week for 38 weeks per year. The childcare can be taken over a minimum of two days and no session can be longer than ten hours a day or shorter than two and a half hours a day.
No sessions are to be before 7 am or after 7 pm, funding can be split between a maximum of two providers and a child is eligible to start the term after their second birthday until the term after their third birthday when they will be starting to access their three year old place within a nursery or childcare setting.
How does it work?
- A child born on or between 1st April and 31st August can apply for two year old funding from 1st April and access a place from 1st September.
- A child born on or between 1st September and 31st December can apply for two year old funding from 1st September and access a place from 1st January.
- A child born on or between 1st January and 31st March can apply for two year old funding from 1st January and access a place from 1st April.

Your entitlement to free childcare does not guarantee you a place with your chosen childcare provider. A provider may choose not to offer the full 38 weeks of funding. It is also up to them what 2, 3, 4 year old funding they do offer. You need to check with the provider what spaces are available.
