Cleethorpes scoops seaside awards

Keep Britain Tidy has announced the winners of their prestigious Seaside Awards today (Thursday, May 19) and Cleethorpes has swept the board with its beaches.

North Promenade, Central Promenade, Humberston Fitties and Marine Embankment have all been included in the honours list for beaches that meet the very highest standards for cleanliness and facilities.

The Seaside Awards are the quality marks for beaches and mean those visiting them can be sure they are clean and safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as the tough bathing water quality standards.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Coastal Awards manager, Paul Todd, said: “It is great that we have been able to award more beaches this year with Seaside Awards.

“As an environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy is committed to improving the quality of the places where people live, work and holiday and these winners have proved their commitment to providing the best possible beaches for locals and visitors alike.

“The public can be sure, if they visit a Seaside Award winning beach, that they are visiting one of the best beaches in the world.”

Councillor David Watson, cabinet member for environment and tourism, said gaining four Seaside Awards was excellent news for Cleethorpes.

“This accolade is testament to the hard work and dedication the council departments and others involved put in to making the resort a top-class place to work, stay and play,’’ he added.

“The awards recognise beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet the required mandatory standards for water quality.

“It’s great to see Cleethorpes up there with the best, particularly in the year we are hosting the national Armed Forces Day and so many other spectacular events in the resort.”
