Fishing Heritage Centre – Education service
Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre has been helping people to develop their understanding of the world famous fishing heritage of Great Grimsby for over a quarter of a century.
Our passionate team of staff includes museum professionals as well as those that have served within the industry itself. Our current team of trawler guides have a combined 150 years spent at sea!
We understand that our story and resources have value to the public in a variety of ways and it is our aim to assist you however we can.
The Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre receives around 2000 children a year on Educational Visits.
For more information on visiting us, see our School visits page.
We offer formal and informal outreach in terms of talks, visits to community groups and other adult learning opportunities.
A talk relating to aspects of our fishing heritage is charged at £50. For more information please contact the Education Officer on 01472 323646.
We have worked alongside care homes as well as community care groups like Navigo.
Our multisensory heritage themed attraction has proven beneficial to visiting care homes, as well as visitors living with dementia. However, we do understand that visits to sites outside of care homes is not always possible.
We offer visits to care homes for £25 an hour with our trawler guide and Education Officer. Visits last for one hour and allow for object handling and discussions around our local heritage. For more information please contact the Education Officer on 01472 323646.
The North East Lincolnshire Museums Service has a number of objects that have been placed into the care of the Education Service. We are currently in a process of reviewing and cataloguing these items for future use in the community.
It is intended that a list of available items to suit a variety of topic areas will soon be made available for loan, together with support material.
However, if you do have any specific requirements where you feel we may be able to help, please contact the Education Officer on 01472 323646.
The Education Service is continually working to improve the online presence of the attraction. We are currently looking to develop a new website with new online resources planned for the near future. Watch this space!
