Markets in North East Lincolnshire

We manage three markets in North East Lincolnshire. The Grimsby Top Town Market, the seasonal Cleethorpes Market, and the Farmers’ Market.

Grimsby Market

Grimsby Town Market Hall is usually open four days a week from 9am to 4pm on a Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The modern market hall is next to Freshney Place Shopping Centre in Grimsby. You can get to it through Freshney Place as well as from entrances on Bull Ring Lane and Victoria Street.

We currently have an incentive scheme for new traders and a pop up stall option. If you are interested in becoming a trader at Grimsby Top Town Market then contact the Markets Office.

Market history

Records show there has been a market in Grimsby since before the end of the 12th Century and during the period of the town’s decline the market became the mainstay of economic life in the borough. It was originally held on Wednesdays and Saturdays near the Market Cross to the east of St James Church and received its first Royal Charter from King James I in the year 1604.

A Corn Exchange was opened in 1857 housing some traders and a roof extension was later erected to protect outdoor traders. The local council took over the running of the market in 1853 and after occupying various locations in the centre of the town it moved to its present building in 1976.

The market is very proud of its heritage. There is a photography display at the market depicting the market at various times in its life and at various sites dating back to before the 1900s.

Cleethorpes Market Place hosts a traditional market and is commonly known for its flower and plant displays. The well-established market has taken place in the resort since 1998 and also includes a clothing stall.

The popular, seasonal outdoor market opens on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm.

If you are interested in trading at Cleethorpes Market or would like more information on the incentive scheme, contact the Markets Office.

The Grimsby Farmers Craft Market is on the third Friday of every month in Victoria Street, in the heart of Grimsby town centre.

You can purchase local cheese, bread, cakes, lamb, pork and even ostrich meat to name but a few. The traders are local and are heavily involved in the production of the goods they sell, whether it be making, growing, or rearing it!

It’s fresh, it’s local and it’s great value!

Where?

Victoria Street, Grimsby.

When?

Third Friday of every month (Weather permitting).
