North East Lincolnshire Council is launching a competition to find new artwork to promote recycling on its new bin lorries.
Twelve new bin lorries for collecting household waste will be hitting the streets in spring 2020. The existing vehicles are several years old and need replacing.
Winners will have their designs displayed on the new lorries and they will each receive a replica model of the lorry.
There’s also a name the bin lorry competition.
The artwork competition is open to people of all ages and is divided into three age categories:
- Under 11 years old
- 11 to 17 years old
- 18 and over (including community groups).

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said:
“Thousands of people see our bin lorries rolling through the streets and this competition is a great opportunity for artists of all ages to put their work on show.
“We know there are lots of talented people in North East Lincolnshire and that’s why we’re inviting entries from college students, community groups and adults as well as children.
“Recycling is the theme of the competition and we want to see artwork that encourages people to recycle as much as they can and look after their local environment.
“We’re also giving people the chance to come up with the names of the new lorries.”
Cllr Swinburn added:
“The new bin lorries are for household and garden waste. We are looking at new ways to collect recycling and that includes new vehicles, but we need to wait to hear more from a central government about how it wants councils to collect recycling.
“Some big changes have been proposed and this will impact what we do in the future.”
