Healthy Places Award

Do you want a reputation as an employer of choice? Do you want to show your people they really matter?

Happy, healthy people are at the heart of any great organisation. A culture that promotes health and wellbeing will reap the benefits of: improved attendance, productivity and attainment; greater happiness, morale and staff retention; and an enhanced experience for your service users and customers.

We recognise that every place is unique in its strengths and challenges. Available as an add-on to the Healthy Places Membership, the Healthy Places Award will facilitate your organisation to identify and achieve your unique goals towards creating a healthier place, looking at health and wellbeing in its broadest sense. Achieving an Award gives you recognition for your investment in and commitment to health and wellbeing.

Whether you are an educational establishment, workplace or community venue this award can work for you. Through campaigns, promotions and tailored action plans, there is much we can achieve together.

You can read about the impact that our Healthy Places Award had for Young’s Seafood on the Humber business website.

How will we know it’s making a difference?

The overall aim of the Healthy Places Award is to integrate health and wellbeing into the ethos of your organisation; to develop an environment that helps to protect, maintain and improve the health and wellbeing of the people within it.

The Award is based on four progressive themes, which of these you cover will depend on whether you engage at Bronze, Silver or Gold:

Themes

Commitment & Involvement:

  • A regular opportunity for the planning, coordination and review of how your organisation promotes health and wellbeing
  • A collaborative and participative approach to achieving the Award, across all levels of the organisation
  • This award is available at bronze, silver and gold levels

Raising awareness of health and wellbeing:

  • Encourage ‘conversations for change’ through Making Every Contact Count (MECC)
  • Raise awareness of national and local campaigns that promote health and wellbeing
  • This award is available at bronze, silver and gold levels

Developing skills, knowledge and support for health and wellbeing:

  • Support self-reflection and personal change in relation to health and wellbeing
  • Enable people to develop the skills and confidence to support others
  • Open up routes to internal and/or external sources of information and support
  • This award is available at silver and gold levels

Creating a culture that promotes health and wellbeing for all people:

  • Your ethos as a healthy place will be felt by everyone who walks through the doors of your organisation
  • A ‘sense of community’ exists
  • Open and honest communication is encouraged (people know that it is ok to ask for help)
  • Everyone is treated with dignity and respect
  • This award is available at gold level

You will choose to join the Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level. Progressive themes, relevant to the award levels, have been designed to enable you to engage with the Award in a way that suits the needs and resources within your organisation.

The Award is assessed through a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate that you have met the criteria. The criteria are based primarily on the process of creating a ‘Healthy Place’. We offer guidance about what topics to cover through your Award, however we respect that every organisation is unique, so there is the scope to tailor the Award to address the issues that are relevant to the people within your organisation. We believe this makes your participation in the Award a meaningful experience for your organisation and a worthwhile investment of time and money.

Once you have paid for the award, you will gain access to a range of support resources, including a checklist that walks you through the practical steps to achieving your award and a range of guidance sheets and templates. You will also receive and have access to support from the Healthy Places Team.

The award is available as an add-on to our annual membership.

You will also complete a questionnaire at the beginning to assess where you are at the start, and the final step before you receive your Award will be to review the questionnaire to identify progress that you have made.
