Care leavers | Other support
Through Care will fund driving lessons if you are 17 to 20 years old and in education, training or employment. Initially 10 lessons will be booked with further lessons once you pass your theory test with a maximum of 20 lessons in total. Lessons will not be booked if you are known to misuse cannabis, drugs or alcohol on a regular basis as safety has to be the first consideration. Any exceptions will need to be evidenced through the pathway plan.
We will agree some funding for visits with family members, but only if agreed as part of your Pathway Plan. We cannot fund requests at short notice to relatives who have not previously been identified as significant.
Passports and National Documents
We will fund a passport if required during the period of involvement. We will help you with the completion of the form. We will also make a contribution towards Citizenship papers. You will be expected to fund a third of this cost.
We will purchase one smart phone for you, up to the value of £100.
Council Tax exemption
If you are a North East Lincolnshire care leaver and are not in employment you are fully exempt from Council Tax until you become 25 years old. You will need to confirm with the council tax office that you are a care leaver and consent for them to confirm this with the Through Care service.
You will also need to remember that at 25 you will have to start to pay Council Tax and this could be part way through a financial year.
If you live with another young person who is not a care leaver, they will still have to pay council tax, although there will be a 50 per cent exemption. If you have any worries please contact your personal advisor or the Council Tax team.
