North East Lincolnshire Council

Empty properties and derelict land

Empty Homes

Our team can work with owners of empty homes to find solutions to help bring them back into use. Fill in the online form to let us know about an empty home.

There is no council tax discount for an empty property.

If a property has been empty for over two years you may be charged 200% council tax, and over 5 years you may be charged 300%.

More information is available on the council tax pages.

How can we help you bring a property back into use?

We can help to find a buyer for the property, or we can advise owners on how to bring an empty property back into use. There are loans and grant schemes available to help fund (or contribute towards) refurbishing an empty property.  The schemes are dependent on funding from the Council.

Derelict land and commercial property

Interested investors often enquire about derelict land and commercial properties. Our advisors can provide a signposting service to help you find a solution to help bring the site back into use.

We can also offer advice to find a temporary security solution to protect your site from further vandalism.

Fill in the online form to let us know about derelict land and/or commercial property.

Further advice can be found on the empty homes website.

Investor or developer

If you’re an investor or developer we can help you source empty properties and derelict land or commercial properties.
