Cycle parking

Find out about safe cycle parking on Cycle Hub Lincs . This includes parking at the Cycle Hub as well as access to the Abbey Walk cycle compound, both in Grimsby Town Centre.

There are also cycle parking facilities available at all local schools and colleges, Grimsby Hospital, sports and leisure centres, doctors surgeries, medical centres and local parks. However, if you know of a location where new or additional cycle parking would be useful please let us know and we’ll try and get some installed.

Security tips

No matter where you leave your bike always remember to lock it up. The majority of bicycle thefts are opportunist ones, so no matter how long you are leaving your bike for it is essential that you take adequate steps to make sure that your bike is still there when you return.

Volunteer Ride Leaders

Are you a passionate cyclist and do you want to help others get out and about on two wheels? If so, then you might be the person we’re looking for!

We’re looking for people to train as volunteer Cycle Ride Leaders and lead guided rides for all ages and cycling abilities in 2022. You don’t need to be an expert to take part, all we’re looking for is someone who wants to pass on their enthusiasm for cycling to others. So, whether you’d like to lead a leisurely family ride along the seafront or a more energetic trip up and down the Wolds we’re keen to hear from you.

As a Ride Leader you will receive full training from British Cycling qualified coaches, along with kit and a package of support to help plan, administer and promote your rides courtesy of cycling charity, R-evolution. In return we ask that you deliver at least one led ride a month in 2022, it’s up to you when and where you go.

There will also be some extra goodies available for the first 10 people who sign up and complete their Ride Leader training!

If you are interested and would like to more details, please email [email protected].

Cycle skills workshop training

The Council and R-evolution have recently received funding from the Department for Transport to set up a new Community Bike Workshop at the Grimsby Business Centre on King Edward Street.

If you’re a young person (aged 18+), living in North East Lincolnshire and would like to learn more about becoming a bike mechanic contact [email protected]. The one-day a week course, (lasting three months) will be delivered by a fully qualified bike mechanic trainer who will provide all the knowledge and skills to fix your bike or even start a career working with bikes.

E-bike loans

A new project is being launched later this year to offer local resident the chance to loan an electric bike for up to four weeks. If you’re curious about e-bikes or are thinking about upgrading your existing bike and would like to give an e-bike a go, this is your opportunity. During your loan period you’ll be able to use the e-bike for whatever you like from riding to work, popping to the shops of just going out a ride along the prom.

There will be more information about the scheme in due course but if you are interested in being amongst the first to be involved then register your interest at [email protected] and we will send you further details.

Doctor Bike

The Doctor Bike team will be returning in 2022 offering free bike safety checks and fixing minor problems with your bikes for free.

We’re looking for suitable locations for the team to visit next year, this could be your workplace, the village hall or your local park. All we need is an area of hardstanding (such as a car park or school playground) with enough space for our team’s van and 3m x 3m gazebo. The site must have good access from the road so its easy for people to find and needs to be available between 3pm and 6pm (on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) between April and September 2022.

If you have a location you would like to suggest please email [email protected], make sure you add ‘Doctor Bike’ in the title of your email to make sure we see your suggestion.

The Dr Bike team are still out and about this summer, to find out where they’re going and to book your bike check out the events section on the Council’s Facebook site.

Lock Up! will return

After a hugely successful project in 2021, that saw new cycle parking facilities at more than 10 sites the Lock Up! campaign will return in 2022. We will be taking suggestions for new locations later this year but in the meantime, start looking around to see if your workplace, local shops or areas where you cycle could benefit from new cycle parking facilities. The project is fully funded and will be delivered at no cost to those organisations taking part. The window for applications will open later this year with new facilities being installed in early 2022.

Lockswap

The annual Lockswap event will take place once again this Autumn. Keep a look out for more details of when and where you’ll be able to swap your old bike lock for a new gold standard ‘sold secure’ D-lock.

Bikeability

Bikeability cycle training is delivered to pupils in years 5 and 6 at many local primary schools by our partner, Lincs Inspire. If you’ve got a child who missed out on Bikeability at school or maybe have a younger child who wants to learn to ride, school holiday sessions are available and can be booked directly with Lincs Inspire.  You can find more information out at Lincs Inspire – Holiday activities.
