New pedestrian crossing switched on at Toll Bar roundabout
A new Toucan crossing to improve safety at Toll Bar roundabout has been switched on ahead of schedule.
The works, completed in nine working days, had been timed to coincide with the nearby Tollbar Academy’s half term holiday.
Its opening means children returning to school next week will do so more safely, said North East Lincolnshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and the environment, Cllr Stewart Swinburn.
“The Toucan crossing is a welcome first step to improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists at Tollbar roundabout,” he said.
“I’d like to thank the council’s delivery partner Engie and its contractors for completing the works in only nine days, ahead of schedule.”
The original scheme to remove the existing roundabout and construct traffic signal-controlled crossroads is being reviewed.
A report on the longer-term options to deal with congestion and the planned growth in the area is due to be heard by Cabinet in the next few months.
