Nominations open for UK Youth Parliament candidates
Nominations are now open for the next North East Lincolnshire UK Youth Parliament member and deputy member positions.
The UK Youth Parliament aims to ensure that young people in the UK are given a voice on major issues that affect them, as well as a direct opportunity to be involved in the national democratic process.
Youth Parliament candidates must be:
- Aged between 11 to 18 years old on 17 February 2017
- Residents of North East Lincolnshire
- Prepared to serve in the position for two years from March 2017 to March 2019
- Prepared to represent the views of young people in North East Lincolnshire on a local, regional and national level
In North East Lincolnshire candidates must stand as a pair, with one candidate standing for Youth Parliament member, and the second candidate standing for deputy member.
Councillor Ros James, portfolio holder for children’s services, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people from North East Lincolnshire to be involved in democracy and decision making.
“Youth parliament candidates have campaigned for real change in North East Lincolnshire in the past, including the introduction of cheaper travel during school holidays.”
