North East Lincolnshire Council and its partner ENGIE are a finalist in the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2017.
The innovative partnership has reached the finals in the Local Authority Planning Team of the Year category.
Now in its sixth year, the partnership is recognised in the national statistics as one of the best performing Local Planning Authority’s in the UK which includes 100 per cent of major planning applications dealt within 13 weeks or in an agreed time and 98 per cent of minor and other applications dealt within eight weeks or in an agreed time.
Moreover the authority has been recognised by the Planning and Advisory Service (PAS) and Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) as an exemplar in terms of process and delivery.
The RTPI Awards are the most established and respected awards in the UK planning industry. Running for 40 years, they celebrate exceptional examples of planning and the contribution planners make to society.
Cllr David Watson, portfolio holder for energy and environment at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:
“It’s a credit to the team that this is the second time they’ve reached the finals of these national awards.
“They’ve earned local and national recognition for their efficient and proactive approach to the whole planning service and built relationships that are helping to generate investment and create jobs in North East Lincolnshire.”

“The judges will find it difficult choosing the winners given the high calibre of entries this year.”
This year saw a nearly 40 per cent increase in entrants and the judges have shortlisted 90 finalists across 14 categories with an overall winner awarded the Silver Jubilee Cup.
The winners will be announced during a ceremony held at Milton Court at The Barbican, London on 15 June 2017.
