Pick up your race number and meet the team behind the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k
If you’ve entered next month’s Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k you can pick up your race numbers on Friday and Saturday at the Humber Royal Hotel.
Organisers of the race are also giving runners the chance to meet the team, pick up advice or simply have a chat over a cuppa and a biscuit.
There will be limited edition race sweatshirts and mugs for sale along with trainers and other running gear from specialist running store Metres to Miles.
The team will be at the Humber Royal Hotel, Littlecoates Road, Grimsby, from 10am to 7pm on Friday 29 June and from 9am to 5pm on Saturday 30 June.
If you’ve not yet entered, places are still available in the 10k race and the fun run and there are also opportunities for volunteers.
Sign up at the Humber Royal on Friday and Saturday or visit www.greatgrimsby10k.com for details.
Race director Nicola Pattison, from Tape2Tape, said:
“As well as giving runners the chance to pick up their numbers, we thought it would be brilliant to offer entrants advice about their preparations and answer any questions they may have.
“We have a lot of emails from new runners who are nervous about taking part in their first race.
“It’s common for people to have worries about what to wear, what to eat, how much training to do and even about coming last.
“We thought it would be a great idea to give people the chance to ask those questions in person, especially those who might have reservations about entering.
“If you’re new to running and you’re not sure about entering, please come along and talk it through. We have places available in the 10k and the fun run and you’ll be able to sign up on the day.
“Julian from the Metres to Miles specialist running shop in Epworth has competed at three World Championships during his running career and will be on hand with his expert advice for runners of all abilities.”
Numbers will be posted next week to those who can’t collect them in person.
The Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k takes place on Sunday 22 July and is much more than a road race with thousands of pounds raised for charity and a wealth of volunteering opportunities provided.
Almost £8,000 was donated directly to last year’s main race charity and hundreds of pounds were given to community groups who provided volunteers to help the event run smoothly.
Seven charities will benefit from one of the area’s most popular road races, including:
When you wish upon a star
St Andrew’s Hospice
Grimsby Rotary Club
The Health Tree Foundation
And HMT St Hugh’s Hospital have been announced as the sponsors of the 2km inclusive fun run that starts and finishes under the same race arches at the 10k event.
Entry fees have been kept low thanks to the generosity of sponsors, so far including:
North East Lincolnshire Council
Associated British Ports (ABP)
North East Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
Wilkin Chapman LLP
HMT St Hugh’s Hospital
Wilson & Co
Metres to Miles
Humberside Fire and Rescue
Freshney Place Shopping Centre
