Do I need planning permission?
Find out if what you want to do requires planning permission
Whether you need planning permission to alter or extend your property will depend on the size and position of what you want to do. Some alterations and extensions, particularly to houses, can often be carried out without the need for planning permission. This is known as ‘permitted development’. See the related content section to view a list of properties that have their permitted development rights removed.
The planning portal offers general advice including interactive tools and mini guides to common projects.
