Outdoor Learning Cards
The Outdoor Learning Cards are a resource developed to aid teachers and youth leaders in delivering outdoor based activities to children and young people from key stages 1-4 onsite or in the surrounding environment. The learning cards can help you directly contribute to children and young people’s personal, educational and developmental aims which are broken down into four categories:
Orienteering – developing navigational skills
Team Building and Problem Solving – how to work cohesively to think of solutions
Bouldering – use of low level climbing walls
Journeying – (Pre DofE) local visits planned by young people
As individual activities they specifically support the PE curriculum from keystage 1-4. The learning cards also support other areas of the curriculum such as maths, English, geography, PSHE and ICT by applying such concepts in an outdoor setting.
NEL Outdoor Learning Service provide training and support for teachers/ youth leaders to enable them to deliver the Orienteering, Team Building and Problem Solving, Bouldering and Journeying activities at their own convenience. The training is 1 day delivered by your local Learning Outside the Classroom Advisor.
