Skip It rides again – with YOUR help

North East Lincolnshire Council is inviting community groups and other organisations to bid to host their own Skip It events with its support as part of a new trial.

Almost 28 tonnes of household waste was collected at the first two Skip It events of 2019.

The Council teamed up with Lincolnshire Housing Partnership (LHP) to host the pop-up recycling events on the East Marsh and in Immingham last month.

Following this success, the Council is launching a trial where community groups and other organisations can apply to host Skip It events in their area.

Groups can apply by downloading an expression of interest form at www.nelincs.gov.uk/skipit.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said:

“There was a terrific turnout for the first two Skip It events of 2019 and I’m grateful to LHP and to our waste management contractor NEWLINCS for their support.

“We want to build on that momentum and we’re starting a trial where we work with the community to stage more events this year.

“With the community’s help, we can give even more people the opportunity to get rid of unwanted furniture and other household junk easily and for free.

“Skip It is also great for bringing people together to help friends and neighbours have a clear out and to clean up alleyways and other areas blighted by fly-tipping.”

Interested groups can download the Expression of Interest (EOI) form from www.nelincs.gov.uk/skipit. This can be completed electronically and submitted via email, or printed, completed by hand, scanned, and submitted via email.

Once the form is completed, the form should be emailed to cleanandgreen@nelincs.gov.uk by the deadline of midday on Thursday 27 June 2019.

Skip It dates

Each Skip It event can be held between the hours of 8am and 4pm or 10am and 6pm. The community group(s) can request their preferred hours and day within the Expression of Interest (EOI) form. Unfortunately there are no weekend slots available due to disposal facilities being closed.

Groups can bid to hold their own event on the following dates as part of the trial:
• Monday 15 to Friday 19 July
• Monday 22 to Friday 26 July
• Monday 5 to Friday 9 August
• Monday 19 to Friday 23 August
• Monday 9 to Friday 13 September
• Monday 14 to Friday 18 October

What is Skip It

Skip It started in the summer of 2018 as a new way to help people get rid of their household junk for free. Pop-up recycling points were set up for a day in each of the area’s 15 wards.

People brought everything from mattresses and washing machines to garden clippings and fence panels – most rubbish was recycled or sent to the energy from waste plant to generate electricity.

Skip It also gave people the chance to tidy up their neighbourhoods by clearing rubbish from areas where it was causing a nuisance.
