Cycle parking and security tips

Cycle parking

Free cycle parking is available right across North East Lincolnshire. In Grimsby town centre there is the Cycle Hub and Abbeywalk cycle compound.

The Cycle Hub provides secure indoor parking, and as well as storage it also offers maintenance and cycle hire services. The Hub is open 8am-6pm during the week and 9am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. Regular users may also wish to purchase an access fob that grants entry into the Hub’s secure indoor parking area outside of the normal opening times. Information about this service is available on the Cycle Hub website.

Abbey Walk cycle compound is also located in the centre of Grimsby, on the ground floor of Abbey Walk multi-storey car park. The secure compound is open 7am-7pm (Monday-Friday) and 8am-6pm (Saturday), please check opening hours if you intend to use the facility on Sundays or Bank Holidays. Access fobs for the cycle compound can be obtained from the Cycle Hub.

In addition to the completing an application form at the Cycle Hub you will need to provide one form of photo ID for checking. Use of the cycle compound is free but we do request a £15.00 refundable deposit for the fob.

There are also cycle parking facilities available at all local schools and colleges, Grimsby Hospital, sports and leisure centres, doctors surgeries, medical centres and local parks. However, if you know of a location where new or additional cycle parking would be useful please let us know and we’ll try and get some installed.

Security tips

No matter where you leave your bike always remember to lock it up. The majority of bicycle thefts are opportunist ones, so no matter how long you are leaving your bike for it is essential that you take adequate steps to make sure that your bike is still there when you return.

You can help to reduce the chances of having your bike stolen by:

  • fitting a good quality lock, if you are not sure about what lock to use
  • lock your bike in a busy, public place where there is less opportunity for a thief to work unnoticed
  • make sure that all parts of your bike are secured to the cycle stand, – thieves can easily remove things such as quick release wheels and saddles if they are not secured properly.
