The next contracting phase for the multi-million redevelopment of Cleethorpes Town Centre, starts next week with a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event.

Designed as a fact-finding mission, local contractors in the construction industry are invited to a drop-in session at the Innovation Centre on Europarc on 14 September from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Potential tenderers and sub-contractors are invited to attend understand, the requirements, timelines, the tendering process, subcontracting responsibilities, and social value expectations. We encourage both principal contractors and sub-contractors to attend. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Encouraging the relevant contractors to go along, North East Lincolnshire Council Leader, Cllr Philip Jackson, said: “There is a real desire to involve as many people as possible to come along and see the opportunities that may be open to them in the resort as these projects move forward.

“We have been highly successful in winning millions of pounds in Government funding to ensure the reinvention of our town centres is successful and we are on our way to achieving that. If you are a relevant contractor then please go along and find out how you may be able to be a part of the journey,” he added.

As reported, the three Cleethorpes projects, made possible by £18.4m of Government Levelling Up Funding (LUF) awarded to North East Lincolnshire Council, will see the transformation of Cleethorpes seafront.

The vision is to regenerate three key areas of the resort:

  • Redevelop the Sea Road site opposite the Pier to provide a tourism destination. It will include state-of-the-art public amenities and changing facilities, as well as commercially lettable space across all floors of the building, which may include different providers in retail and hospitality.
  • Rejuvenate the historic Market Place for social interaction, reconnecting our busy seafront and town centre, creating jobs and boosting the economy. This scheme proposes major improvements to the square and the reintroduction of a functioning historic marketplace.
  • Regenerate Pier Gardens (an existing linear park stretching from Sea Road to the Memorial Gate), retaining the Victorian heritage and feel, but incorporating various new activities. In the Masterplan consultation, people wanted to see more made of the gardens, with additional seating, planting to increase biodiversity, and improved areas for children’s play, events and performances, and spaces for reflection and contemplation.

Financial support for the schemes was guaranteed following a successful £18.4m bid by North East Lincolnshire Council to round two of central Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
