COVID-19 update

Our register office building remains closed to members of the public. When we do re-open strict social distancing and hygiene will be applied to all our work and shared spaces and you will be asked to adhere to these.

For the latest on each register office service go to the relevant page. For updates on Council services read COVID-19: Service updates and advice.

From 1 November 2017, The Immigration Act 2016 and new fees regulations have enabled the Registrar General and local registration services to set fees for services that have not been previously charged for.  Additionally, the regulations have enabled increased to fees for services that have previously been set.

The first phase of fee changes brings in new fees for the following:

  • Customer at fault correction – A fee for the consideration of divorces, civil partnerships and nullities obtained outside of the British Isles (including the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)
  • Space 17 amendments – Increase in fee for applications to reduce the 28 day waiting period
  • Removal of the free short birth certificate – customers will still have the opportunity to purchase a short birth certificate at the time of registration for £11

If you have any queries, please contact your local register office on 01472 326295 (Option 1)
