North East Lincolnshire Council provides and manages a crematorium and three cemeteries (Cleethorpes, Scartho Road and Woodlands Burial – located within Scartho Road cemetery). In this section you will find information on all of our services, including crematorium and cemetery management, our maintenance standards.
Bereavement Services is a member of the Federation of Burial and Crematorium Authorities (FBCA) and the Institute of Cemeteries and Crematorium Management (ICCM), adheres to the Code of Cremation Practice and works within the Charter to the Bereaved, copies available upon request. We also provide a cemetery memorial safety programme including a memorial registration scheme for licenced memorial masons and a cremation and burial records information service.
We aim to provide a caring, dignified and professional cremation and burial service which, in accordance with statutory regulations and best practice seeks to:
- Promote social inclusion by positively tackling aspects of service delivery that discriminate against particular groups i.e. those on low incomes
- Ensure in terms of the quality and range of service provision, maintaining the choice between cremation and burial, whilst remaining conscious of the need for sensitivity at all times.
- To promote effectiveness by using resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner
- Minimising the impact of bereavement upon the environment and maximising the opportunity to promote biodiversity
Please note that every last Wednesday of the month the crematorium building and bereavement service office will close at 4 pm.
The Bereavement Services Section is responsible for the grounds maintenance operations at the crematorium and on council-owned cemeteries throughout the borough. This work includes grass cutting, hedge cutting, shrub bed maintenance and flower beds maintenance.
We aim to maintain the grounds of these facilities to a standard that provides a place of comfort, tranquility and reflection for all those who visit. If you believe that standards are not being met, please let us know.
