Face-to-face support isn’t for everyone, so why not set yourself this 28-day challenge.
The programme is available to adult smokers in North East Lincolnshire who want to quit smoking and is designed for people who prefer a more independent approach to quitting.
The scheme provides a free four-week vape starter kit and salts tailored to you to help you swap to a less harmful alternative to cigarettes. Our Stop Smoking Service will call to check in with you to see how you have got on after the 28 days has come to an end. Research has shown that swapping to a vape is an effective tool to quit smoking.
Vapes do not contain cancer causing chemicals that are in tobacco, so they are substantially less harmful than smoking. Switching from cigarettes to vapes immediately cuts out most of the harmful toxins, and as the vaping action feels like smoking, you may find it much easier to quit.
They are a highly regulated and less harmful alternative to cigarettes – backed by the NHS. When used correctly, and with appropriate support, they can be a highly effective tool in tobacco harm reduction. They are not completely risk free, but they carry a small fraction of the risk of cigarettes. They do not contain the most harmful elements of tobacco smoke. You should not vape if you do not already smoke. Children and non-smokers should never vape.
If you have never smoked, you should never start vaping. Vaping is intended solely as a tool for people who already smoke, if you start using it without smoking before it can expose you to nicotine unnecessarily, increasing the risk of developing a dependency.
Geoff Barnes, deputy director for Public Health at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “This new programme is an important step in helping residents move away from smoking and towards less harmful alternatives. We know quitting is not easy, but by supporting people to switch to vaping, we can reduce the health risks associated with tobacco and improve wellbeing across our communities.”
Who is the 28-day challenge for?
