Works are starting in Immingham to create a state-of-the-art PlayZone.
Sited at Roval Drive, the Playzone, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), is where residents will be able to enjoy all kinds of sports from football to netball.
North East Lincolnshire Council and Immingham Town Council were awarded a £244,745 grant from the Football Foundation, the Premier League and the FA in May last year to make the project a reality.
The PlayZone will be built on the land nearest Coombs Brigg Primary Academy. The development will include a 30×20 metre pitch, basketball hoops, football goals, spectator benches, fencing and LED Floodlights so it can be used all year round.
There will be an emphasis on some ‘free to use’ community access booking slots with an online user-friendly booking system, ensuring fairness and safety, that will need to be used to make bookings for all sessions (including free use).
The PlayZone, operated by Immingham Town Council, will also offer the opportunity for more formal sessions to be held by local groups and organisations for a small fee. If interested in using the facility please email [email protected] to express your interest.
This project has also been supported by an additional £60,000 in partnership funding from Immingham Town Council and £21,582 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Works have started today (Monday 27th July 2026) with construction scheduled to take up to 12 weeks. This means that construction will take place during the first few weeks of the new school term, planning is underway to make sure there is limited disruption to school pick up and drop off times.
Councillor Tanya Brasted, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and the Visitor Economy, said: “Whether people come to play football, netball or something else, these PlayZones are a brilliant way of providing the younger generation with something to do.
“The MUGAs in Grant Thorold Park and Kent Street have shown how successful they can be and I’m sure this will be no different.
“I would also like to thank Immingham Town Council for coming on board with the project and for helping us make it a reality.”
Andy Hopkins, Director of Operations Immingham Town Council said: “This is a fantastic new development for our Town and we thank the Football Foundation and North East Lincolnshire Council for their support. Existing groups will be able to make use of the facility, and we hope that it might encourage new sport and fitness opportunities for our residents.”

“As with all PlayZones, the new facility at Roval Drive has been shaped by the local community in Immingham, who’ll be able to step out onto the pitch and get active in a way that suits them.
“Thanks to the funding we receive from our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government, the Foundation will be delivering over 200 PlayZones like this one across the country.”
The PlayZone at Roval Drive is expected to open in Autumn 2026.
