Refurbishment works to Alexandra Dock flyover between Moody Lane / Westgate roundabout and Lockhill roundabout are under way, with the westbound works almost complete.
The contraflow will be switched once the work to install a temporary expansion joint on the westbound carriageway has been completed later this week.
On the night of Sunday 9 August, the traffic management will be changed so that vehicles will all travel on the westbound carriageway over the bridge to allow the eastbound to be worked on.
This work will require a full closure of Westgate, including Alexandra Dock Bridge, overnight from approximately 8pm. All traffic will be diverted through Grimsby.
Once the bridge closure is removed (in the early hours of Monday 10 August), a short contraflow will come into force (on Alexandra Dock Bridge) and eastbound traffic towards Cleethorpes will be filtered to the opposite carriageway for approximately 200m.
The pattern of works for the eastbound carriageway will follow the same as the previous westbound works.
- – The road surface on the eastbound carriageway will be removed to allow the new waterproof layer to be included and the joints between the bridge and the rest of the carriageway to be replaced.
- – Once this is done, the long contraflow will be put in place for around two weeks to allow the whole section between Gilbey and Lockhill roundabouts to be resurfaced.
There will be free local recovery provided within the contraflow sections for any cars that breakdown or if there are accidents during the works.
The main diversion route will be through the centre of Grimsby to avoid the works. Abnormal load carriers and local businesses have been advised of the works.
