A delegation of dignitaries from Germany this week heard how families are being supported by Family Hubs in North East Lincolnshire.
The visitors, from Cleethorpes’ Twin Town of Königswinter, visited Reynolds Family Hub as part of a packed programme during their annual visit to the borough.
Organised by the Council’s Civic Team, the delegation visited a number of places around North East Lincolnshire to share experiences and see some of the innovative work happening here.
One of the visits was to Reynolds Family Hub in Cleethorpes, where they met with families and observed an activity group. They also heard about how new mums are accessing infant feeding support and baby registration services in the Hubs.
The Family Hub visit offered an opportunity to share ideas and experiences, looking at the best ways to support our children, young people, and their families.
The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor Marian Boyd, welcomed the delegation to North East Lincolnshire.
Cllr Boyd said: “I was thrilled to be able to welcome our counterparts from Königswinter last week.
“The visit demonstrates the continued strength of our partnership.”
Speaking about the visit, Councillor Bob Callison, portfolio holder for Environment, Tourism and Culture at North East Lincolnshire Council, said he was pleased to welcome the delegation.
“The special friendship that exists between Königswinter and our resort began more than 50 years ago when the official twinning declaration was signed in March 1975.
“Over those 50-years, we have shared knowledge and experiences as we each look to support our communities in the best way.
“The delegation really enjoyed hearing about the work being done in our Best Start family hubs to support children, young people and their families. They were particularly interested in hearing about how families access services, and how the services wrap around families to provide support where it’s needed the most.”
Among the delegation was: Bürgermeisterin of Königswinter, Heike Jüngling, and her husband, former Bürgermeister (2000 – 2021), Peter Wirtz, Norbert Mahlberg, Deputy Bürgermeister of Königswinter, and Monika Effelsberg, Chair of the Town Twinning Committee.
The visit included a presentation on the Heritage Regeneration of Cleethorpes Seafront and a walk taking in the works completed and underway in Sea View Street, Alexandra Road, The Dolphin Hotel and The Mermaid Café.
The group toured the Horizon Youth Zone and met with Councillors and officers to discuss the future of twinning.
There was also a focus on delivering services to residents, with talks from officers in the Council’s ICT team and Children’s Services.
