Everyone wants to make sure their kids stay active and healthy – ‘Playing Together & Moving Together’ – whatever their age.
One local club helping to do that is recently formed Future Football. With ages ranging from 7 to 11, there are hundreds of kids being helped on a weekly basis.
Through community sessions where people simply turn up and have fun to their team training nights, there are plenty of ways they can enjoy themselves.
For founder Jamie Ferns, it’s been great for her, her family and the community.
“We started in May this year after our son went to one football group but felt it was too strict and he wasn’t enjoying it,” she said.
“Eventually, Future Football was created. For us, Saturday mornings are simply about getting parents and their children out in the fresh air enjoying themselves. It’s my favourite day of the week and it’s brilliant.
“Whether they come to play football in the hopes of joining a team, just to have a kick about or simply to have a run around the pitch – it’s all welcome here.
“It’s so important that people keep moving. A lot of children spend time on screens these days but these sessions ensure that for at least one hour every week they’re outside playing.
“We make sure we’re always here and they can have fun with their friends.”
Jamie also recognises that these clubs can be expensive for parents and carers so the club does the best they can to provide for everyone.
She said: “We have a donation point for old boots, shin pads or any other kit that people don’t need – this can then be used by anyone, completely free of charge.
“There’s no necessity to come to the sessions or the club, we just want to get as many kids playing football and being active as we possibly can – if somebody needs equipment, we can help.”
The efforts of Jamie and other members of Future Football is a perfect example of the Council’s new Play Together and Move Together initiatives; aiming to make exercise as fun as possible for everyone.
Just this week, it was revealed how North East Lincolnshire has received wider backing for the council and its partners to get our population moving with £1.1 million funding from Sport England.
Deputy Director for Public Health, Geoff Barnes, added: “Future Football are doing excellent work.
“We are trying to get as many people as possible out and about across the borough enjoying themselves – however that looks.
“Clubs like these are essential in giving an affordable, friendly offer to families and I would like to personally thank them for their work.
“Movement is key for general fitness, health, wellbeing and longevity overall”
The council is keen to help promote registered and verified clubs and organisations encouraging people to be active and play together. If you are part of or run a club that helps promote this, please email [email protected].
