New St in Grimsby will be closed to through traffic from 6 October to enable the asbestos removal works at Grimsby Central Library to be carried out safely.

As previously reported, professional asbestos removal company, Rhodar Industrial Services Ltd have been engaged to remove the asbestos from the building.

A work compound will be set up in the road for the duration of the works.

The pavement against the library on New Street will also be closed off, but pedestrians will be able to use New Street.

The regeneration of the library remains a key part of the wider Grimsby Town Centre Masterplan.

The appointment of a specialist contractor to carry out asbestos removal marks a significant milestone in the future of Grimsby Central Library, paving the way for the next stages of planning, including the development of a full business case to support its long-term regeneration.
