TWO more fines have been issued to utility companies over the last week as North East Lincolnshire Council continues its mission to clampdown on businesses that flout agreed practices and conditions when carrying out works.

The first one was for work being carried out in Laceby where there was a failure to provide adequate access routes for pedestrians.

The other was for incorrect positioning of traffic management, leading residents to believe a bus stop was closed along Carr Lane, Grimsby. The council acted after receiving complaints. These two follow a fine issued last month after traffic lights were put up in Clee Crescent without any work taking place.

As officers confirmed that inspections are regularly carried out and, where necessary, fines are issued, Cllr Oliver Freeston, the Leader of North East Lincolnshire said: “This is us, as an authority, ensuring we can do all we can to hold businesses to account when there are failures to comply with permit requirements to carry out work. Yes, we all appreciate that repairs and upgrades are required and will ultimately benefit residents. However, we’re trying to minimize disruption as much as possible, and this will carry on.”
