A fantastic new event is inviting dads, grandads and male foster carers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to come together over pizza to connect with others who understand their experiences.
The informal social group has been created to give men a welcoming space to meet, chat, share experiences, or simply relax in a friendly and supportive environment.
The first event will take place on Tuesday 3 November, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, at Bounce Back AP, 223-225 Cleethorpes Road, Grimsby, DN31 3BE.
The event is being hosted in collaboration with North East Lincolnshire Council’s Educational Psychology Team and the North East Lincolnshire Parent Carer Forum (NELPCF).
Ann-Marie Matson Director of Children’s Services at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:
“The impact of meeting other people who share your experiences is huge.
“This is true for anyone at any time, but it can be especially important for men and for those raising children with additional needs.”
Katy Kibasila Director of North East Lincolnshire Parent Carer Forum added:
“We have experienced first-hand the important role peer support can play while bringing up children with SEND.
“We’d love to see more dads, grandads and male carers represented in this area and to create a space they can call their own.”
There are plans for the pizza night to continue on a half-termly basis. For future dates and other SEND-related events, visit the SEND Local Offer Events Calendar: Events and training – NELC SEND Local Offer
