Drawings from local children highlighting the importance of recycling and looking after the environment are now up on the council’s new bin lorries.
North East Lincolnshire Council is pleased to announce the wonderful drawings are on full view for the people of North East Lincolnshire to enjoy.
More than 200 people entered the bin lorry artwork competition last year in a bid to have their artwork showcased on one of the council’s new bin lorries that arrived in spring 2020.
Twenty five winners were chosen to have their artwork displayed on the side of one of the new wagons and thirteen entrants were chosen as winners for their suggested names for the new bin lorries, which included the likes of Binson, Binosaurus Rex, Trucky and Rita the Rubbish Eater.
The competition was based on the theme of recycling and encouraging people to recycle as much as they can and to look after their local environment.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “It’s fantastic that so many people took the time to enter the competition and help spread the word about how important it is to reduce waste and recycle as much as you can.
“I’d once again like to say a huge congratulations to the winners of both the artwork and name suggestions.
“I’m pleased to say the artwork is now up on the new wagons for everyone to enjoy as our bin crews continue to work hard making their way around the borough serving the people of North East Lincolnshire during these difficult times.”
As a thank you, artwork winners will receive a model bin lorry with their drawing on, as well as having their original artwork framed and returned to them.
The council is also awaiting the arrival of one more bin lorry, which will display the drawing produced by residents at Fairways Care Home, along with their suggested bin lorry name ‘Justin the Dustbin’.
