Motorists are reminded to avoid Toll Bar roundabout next week, if possible, as improvement works get underway.

Delays are anticipated over the initial four days of the six-month scheme while splitter islands on the entries into the roundabout are temporarily removed.

This work will allow the roundabout to remain largely open throughout the remainder of the project, without the need for traffic signals.

From Monday, for a few days only, Station Road east and west into the roundabout will be closed between 7.30am and 7pm while the A16 (north/south) will be subject of two-way traffic signals.

The No.8 bus service will be diverted during this initial phase from Louth Road roundabout, up to Low Farm Roundabout, to Peaks Lane and then pick up its usual route at the roundabout of Peaks Lane / Station Road / Humberston Avenue. Bus stops on Station Road will be closed during this period and it is advised to check where your nearest alternative bus stop location is.

If it is not possible to catch the bus at an alternative location, the council’s Phone ‘n’ Ride service may meet travel requirements. Phone it on (01472) 324440.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, Cabinet member for highways, said: “There were a number of options of completing this initial week of work, but after we talked with local residents and parish councils, the daytime closures were the preferred option.

“Whilst there will be disruption, we have timed these works to start after Tollbar Academy has closed for the summer to reduce it as much as we can.”

The programme is being undertaken by contractors CR Reynolds on behalf of North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner ENGIE.
