From Wednesday this week, Meridian Showground will open to public events once more with the arrival of Tuckers Mega Fun Fair Fun Park.

Closed earlier in the year in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the event will be the first one back in the Showground since March this year.

Cllr Callum Procter, Cabinet member for tourism, said: “It’s really important we try to get attractions back up and running in the resort again, but we need to do this responsibly.

“The event organisers have assured us that additional cleaning regimes will be in place within the attraction, and we have implemented COVID arrangements in the showground as well to help people maintain social distance. But people must be sensible and take personal responsibility as well.

“COVID-19 has been devastating for many resorts across the UK, not just for Cleethorpes, but I’m glad to see thing moving towards the start of some sort of summer season.”

The organisers have restricted the sessions during the days to allow for time to clean the rides and have warned fair-goers that queues are likely to be longer to allow for social distancing. Additionally, visitors will be asked to sanitise their hands on entry and exit on every ride.

Meanwhile, Meridian Showground itself has been awarded the “Good to Go” industry standard mark from Visit England, showing that the procedures in place at the showground have been changed to help people social distance and reduce the risk of contracting the virus, and also that the staff at the Showground have received COVID-19 training.
