Parents in our area are being urged by education and health chiefs to start to get their child ready to return to school in September.
The call comes as reports suggested UK coronavirus cases are leveling off. North East Lincolnshire Council’s Director of Public Health, Stephen Pintus, said that the area’s experience of the virus was not on par with the rest of England.
Mr Pintus said: “Thanks to a huge community effort with everyone following the Government guidance closely, we’ve had very few cases in our area.
“As more and more settings open up, parents and families should start thinking about and preparing for their children returning to school in September.”
The call was backed by the Council’s portfolio holder for children, education and young people, Councillor Ian Lindley, who added: “It’s vitally important that children and young people don’t miss out on their education.
“We have had a very low number of cases in our area and we have been working with local schools to put measures in place to ensure that classrooms will be safe spaces for children.
“I would urge parents and families across our area to start to talk to their children about the virus, about what to expect when going back to school in September, and the importance of them following the measures put in place.
“We all care deeply about our children and want them to get the best opportunities in life. Worrying for their safety in these uncertain times is nothing to be embarrassed about, but I want to reassure parents that we have done everything we can, working with schools, to ensure they will be safe.
“If parents want that extra level of reassurance and peace of mind, I would encourage them to get in touch with their child’s school to find out what exactly is being done to minimise the risk.”
Mr Thurley, headteacher at Beacon Academy in Cleethorpes said: “We are looking forward to welcoming back our students along with new starters in September.
“Like other schools, we are putting things in place to stop the virus spreading and to keep our classrooms COVID-free.
“We have communicated our plans to all parents and they know they can contact us with any concerns. Our contact details are on our website and we’re more than happy to talk parents through the measures we’ve put in place.”
