North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner, ENGIE, are currently engaging with local residents in Cleethorpes to understand the need for a potential Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in the main resort area.

Residents have made a number of requests for the introduction of resident parking schemes in response to concerns of increasing parking pressures from local shoppers, tourists and commuters using residential roads for long periods of time.

A CPZ allows local authorities to put restrictions in place to allow residents to be able to park closer to their properties, unaffected by shoppers, tourists and commuters.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “We understand the frustration of residents when they are unable to park close to their properties and we have been contacted by a number of residents about the issue.

“Highway officers at ENGIE have been working with ward councillors to identify a proposed area to engage with residents affected by this issue and will be writing to these residents in the coming days for them to share their feedback and identify what sort of scheme may be required.

“This piece of work will take time to complete due to the complex nature of such a scheme. We will have to consider existing permit holder schemes and manage any potential knock-on effect of non-residential vehicles moving elsewhere to other streets.

“I’m committed to working with local residents and the officers involved to help develop a solution to this issue and allow them to park without unnecessary disruption close to their homes.”

Further details about the CPZ will be shared as the scheme progresses and further consultation and engagement is required.

The proposed CPZ can be found here.
