Supporting job seekers in getting to work

Thirty bikes have been provided to job seekers in North East Lincolnshire as part of the ongoing project with regional charity, R-evolution.  

R-evolution, a charity that aims to develop skills of disadvantaged people to get back into work and learn about employment, provided 30 bikes to Grimsby’s Job Centre, to allow their users to be able to get to and from their workplaces.

North East Lincolnshire Council’s regeneration partner, ENGIE, are working with R-evolution to provide cycling activities to businesses, schools and residents in North East Lincolnshire as part of the ongoing Access Fund, supported by the Department for Transport.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “This is the fourth bike library we have held in North East Lincolnshire and it is great to see they remain popular with local people.

“This scheme is just one of the ways, through the Access Fund, we are able to support local people in getting to and from employment in a sustainable and low cost form of travel.”

Rose Johnson, work coach team leader at Grimsby’s job centre, added: “As a local job centre, our main priority is getting people back working. Following a survey to identify barriers of moving into work, it was identified one major barrier was transport and being able to move into employment and maintain the job.

“In response, the bike library has been well received and will allow claimants the opportunity to move into employment and maintain their work status. I can highly recommend this scheme in removing one of the barriers to employment for local people.”
