Lost income due to COVID-19? Here’s how to save some cash on childcare fees

Lots of families in our area have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with some parents facing uncertainty at work.

Childcare funding offered by North East Lincolnshire Council could help some parents to cut the cost of day care for their children.

Parents of 2 year old children could qualify for 15 hours of free child care for a minimum of two days a week.

Parents of 3 and 4 year old children could qualify for between 570 and 1140 hours a year of free early education or childcare.

You can also check if you can access tax free childcare by visiting www.childcarechoices.gov.uk. Here you will also find the full list of childcare funding options available for your child(ren).

Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children, young people and education at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Parents in low income families have been hit hard by coronavirus. Some have lost their jobs or been on furlough, and having children to look after can sometimes make it difficult to find work.

“But parents can apply for free childcare for local early education and childcare providers if they meet the requirements.

“I would urge parents to have a look at the offer, find out if they qualify, and then apply.”
