A man from Doncaster has pleaded guilty in court and received a £190 fine for urinating on Cleethorpes beach.
The man, who visited the resort in June this year, was witnessed committing the offence by two Police Officers from Humberside Police.
The resort is subject to a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) prohibiting ‘any activity or behaviour causing or likely to cause nuisance, alarm, harassment or distress to another person or causing or likely to cause any other person to be intimidated.’ The PSPO came into force from 16 January 2019.
The Police Officers described in their report how they had witnessed the man urinating ‘clear view of all present’, at a time during the early evening when many families with young children were still using the beach.
The man did not attend court but entered a guilty plea by post. He was fined £190 and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £226.04 costs in full within 28 days.
He had been issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) in the sum of £100 for the offence. If he had paid this then he would not have been prosecuted at court.
A FPN is an alternative to prosecution and allows 14 days for payment to be made. No payment was received and so the male was prosecuted for the offence.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “This sort of unnecessary behaviour is exactly why PSPO’s are in place, and I applaud the Police Officers for issuing the fine.
“It is outrageous that someone thinks it is acceptable to come to our resort and urinate on the beach.”
The first was seen to be throwing fireworks from his car at passers by in October. The second man was taking part in a drag race along the North Promenade. Both men have been issued with a £100 fixed penalty notice and if payment is not made then they will be prosecuted.
