The Council’s Cabinet will consider the next steps in the plans to build a footbridge over the railway at Suggitt’s Lane in Cleethorpes at its meeting next week (Wednesday 10 March).
The bridge will provide a new alternative access over the railway in Cleethorpes. Due to the unique circumstances at Suggitt’s Lane, funding is being provided by Network Rail and the Department for Transport to build the bridge.
Network Rail took the decision to close Suggitt’s Lane in April 2019 for safety reasons. Since then, North East Lincolnshire Council and Network Rail have worked closely together on plans for an alternative access over the railway.
If the go-ahead is given at the Cabinet meeting, a short public engagement period will begin on Thursday 11 March, where visual plans and further details about the proposed bridge will be shared with the public and stakeholders. Following the engagement with local people, the plans will have to be submitted to the formal planning process before construction begins.
