One of the winning entries to a local creative competition has been turned into a powerful new song by musician Amy Naylor.

The lyrics to Don’t you worry about a thing my friend, written by 19-year-old Kerry Crouch, were one of the winning entries to the Youth Action Creative Connections competition held earlier this year.

The competition was arranged by Youth Action – a local group of young people – as part of a Young Advisors lottery funded project.

The theme to the competition was ‘reducing loneliness and isolation through creating connections’ and it was open to young people aged 11-25.

Following the announcement of the winning entries, Hammond House partnered with local musician Amy Naylor to turn the lyrics into a song, with impressive results.

Councillor Ian Lindley, portfolio holder for children, education and skills at North East Lincolnshire Council said: “Nationally young people have been delivering projects to bring people together and help combat loneliness and isolation. In our area, youngsters got together and came up with a creative way of getting other young people involved.

“Once the winners were announced, we worked with Hammond House to bring some of the entries to life. This wonderful son the first of those results. Later in the year we will be publishing an anthology of the entries to give them the attention that they deserve.”

Songwriter Kerry Crouch said: “I’m thrilled to have been chosen as a winning entry – I would like to thank the judges of the Creative Connections competition for choosing my entry and making this amazing experience.

“I have loved every minute of everything we have done together”
