The Great Grimsby Christmas Market will be held over two days on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November in Riverhead Square and alongside some unique traders, there’ll be fun and entertainment and special appearances.
It will be just the place to get into the festive spirit, pick out a few Christmas presents with a browse around the market stalls including gifts, bath products, vegan and eco products, jewellery, hot food and other goodies. And even better, brass bands, singers and street entertainment will be there to enjoy as you shop. There will also be some guest appearances on both days, just perfect for some family fun and selfie opportunities.
In Riverhead Square, you can see a 3m pre-lit Christmas tree that has been bought with the £1000 voucher that Grimsby won in the “Revive and Thrive” competition held in 2019, where we were shortlisted to the final 10 entries. Additionally, a new ‘Fontaine’ illumination has been purchased using some money from the Government’s Welcome Back Fund. Both will be lit when all the Christmas lights are in place and lit from Thursday 25 November, just in time for late night shopping.
You could also see the amazing installation ‘Museum of the Moon’ by Luke Jerram, installation brought by The Culture House at Grimsby Minster (free entry, but booking required). Check out their programme as there are lots of additional events to enjoy.
While you’re in the town centre, why not visit the main Christmas Tree in St James’ Square supplied by local family-run business Strawson Woodland in East Ravendale and once again been funded by NewLincs Development Ltd which operates the Energy from Waste plant in Stallingborough.
The real tree will be situated in St James’ Square from Monday 22 November, with the tree lights being switched on from 4pm on Thursday 25 November when late night shopping begins. There is no larger light up event this year as a COVID precaution.
Councillor Callum Procter, Cabinet member for tourism, said: “It’s lovely to see installations starting to go up in the town centre. It always feels like a good start to the Christmas period! Please do come into the town centre to support your local businesses.”
To support the market, both Cartergate car park and Grimsby Town Hall car parks will be free to use over the weekend (27-28 November).
