Thank you for showing some love for where you live – litter pickers collect more than half a tonne of rubbish in Great Grimsby Day Big Clean

North East Lincolnshire Council is thanking everyone who organised a litter pick to celebrate Great Grimsby Day.

Volunteers collected more than half a tonne of litter from some of the town’s parks and streets on Saturday 22 January.

Litter pickers removed a total of 565kg of rubbish from areas including Weelsby Woods, People’s Park, Ainslie Street Park, Great Coates and Duncombe Street.

The Council supported them by loaning litter picking equipment or arranging the disposal of the rubbish they collected.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said:

“I’m grateful to everyone who took part in the Great Grimsby Day Big Clean, you did a fantastic job.

“We’ve not done this before, but we thought it was a fitting way to celebrate and do something positive for the town.

“Litter picking is a simple way to help the environment and it has benefits for your own wellbeing. 

“My thanks go to all the groups and volunteers who give up their time to make a difference, your town is a better place because of the effort you put in to look after it.”
