The popular Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k will be returning to the streets once again on Sunday 4 June.
Around 2,500 runners will be taking to the course from 9am, starting at Grimsby Town Hall, heading along Scartho Road, Louth Road, and Peaks Parkway, before turning onto Welholme Road to finish in the scenic People’s Park.
Whether you’re cheering on family, friends or live along the race route and want to get out on your doorstep, your support goes a long way.

The race, now in its eighth year, welcomes experienced runners, right through to those who have never run before.
“The race is a really important event for the area. It attracts thousands of runners from miles around,” said Neil and Nicola Pattison, race directors at Tape2Tape.
“The race supports many local community groups and charities in the fantastic work they do in our communities. It is also a big motivator to keep people moving in the support of their physical and mental well-being.
“As always, we would like to thank everyone for their patience while various road closures are in place to keep our runners safe. You must not drive onto the race route as you will potentially be putting the runners, volunteers, of which many children will be helping out, as well as yourself at risk.”
Road closure information
The council has granted a temporary road closure notice for the route and a traffic management company has been hired to keep the route safe.
- Streets around Grimsby Town Hall closed 6.30am to 9:30am
- Race route closed from 8am
- Roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so
- Race route up to 2km open from 9:40am
- Race route up to 6km open from 10am
- All roads open by 11:45am
Households in Scartho Top have access via Ferriby Lane, Fauconberg Avenue and Pelham Avenue.
All streets that connect to a closure with no other access will be closed by default.
Emergency services will not be affected, and a plan is in place. Hospital managers and East Midlands Ambulance Service also have a plan in place so that access to the hospital is maintained at all times. Any members of the public wishing to access the hospital during the road closures can do so via Second Avenue. All hospital department heads have been advised of the road closures so they can communicate plans to anyone with a pre-arranged appointment.
You will see lots of people in hi-vis jackets at all road junctions. These are volunteers who are giving up their time to make the event safe and enjoyable for all. They will do their best to keep you updated about what is happening and where feasible, give alternate routes to assist you. The race organiser asks that you are kind and respectful.

Do your bit and recycle
There will be three water stations on the course where you can grab a drink in a recyclable paper cup. There will also be a 500ml bottle of water at the finish for runners to re-hydrate. The bottles are made from recycled material. Runners are asked to recycle them after use at the recycling tent which will be located in People’s Park. Drinks bottles must be carried to the finish area and not thrown on the floor.
This year, you can recycle your race number too (but you must remove the timing chip first).
Aiming for a litter free race
Race organiser, Tape2Tape, are working towards a litter free race and they ask that people respect our environment and support them in this goal.
Some of the ways the race is becoming greener:
- All rubbish is removed from the route.
- Using recyclable drinks containers.
- Any discarded clothing left at the start line by runners is collected and donated to a local charity.
- Key information is emailed to participants instead of being posted.
- Leftover race t-shirts and medals are given to a local charity.
Supporting charities
The popular event brings the community together for local good causes. It is much more than a road race as it raises thousands of pounds for charities each year and creates a wealth of volunteering opportunities.
The seven chosen local charities for 2023’s event are: Horizon Youth Zone, Harbour Place, RNLI, A Platform To Talk, Grimsby Rotary, We Are With You (formerly Addaction) and Care of Police Survivors.
A £1 donation is made from every race entry into a fund shared between the event’s charity partners.
Care Plus Great Grimsby Family Fun Run
There are still free places up for grabs for the Care Plus Great Grimsby Family Fun Run, which takes place in People’s Park at the same time as the race at 9am on Sunday 4 June. This is a 1km route around People’s Park in Grimsby.
Care Plus Group, in partnership with Tape2Tape, are giving away 500 free places for the fun run, on a first-come-first-served basis. Once these places have gone, families can benefit from a low entry fee of just £2.50 per person. On the day, fun run entries are available from the Tape2tape merchandise gazebo in People’s Park from 7:30am.

Everyone will receive a medal, sweets and a drink. There will also be lots of activities for everyone to enjoy in People’s Park afterwards.
Finish line event at People’s Park
Come along and enjoy the festivities at People’s Park on Sunday 4 June – and even bring a picnic! There will be lots of stands with free activities from some of the race sponsors and charities, creating a fantastic community atmosphere and reception.
The Canoe River Cleaner will be manning the recycling tent and encouraging children to litter pick in the park, in return for goodie bags and seeds to feed the ducks.
As an inclusive, family-friendly event, this year People’s Park will have a quiet space. Any member of the public needing a break from the noise and activity can use this tent as a chance to regroup.
For food, there will be Bensley’s Homemade Ice Cream, Greek Shack, Trigglets, Fleurs Crepes and The Dogs (foot long sausages) and the on-site café in People’s Park.
Plenty of bands will be motivating the runners: Humber Taiko drummers will be at the finish, Kettle Drums on Peaks Parkway, and East Coast Elite Band at Scartho Fork. There will also be a 40+ cheering station on Peaks Parkway from 1st New Waltham Grimsby Beaver, Cub and Scout Group and Fierce Elite Cheerleaders on the route too.
