Grimsby Top Town Market, next to Freshney Place Shopping Centre, is collecting donations of non-perishable food items to redistribute to local people in need.
Inspired by local Harvest Festivals, the market will be collecting tins and packets of food from members of the public, traders, Equans (who operate its facilities) and North East Lincolnshire Council (who own the market) in a mission to make sure no one has to go hungry this harvest season.
Donations can be taken to Market Garden where they will be collected and taken to storage at the end of each day.
The following goods are high on local food banks wish lists and would be welcomed:
- Tinned food goods
- Packets of rice, pasta, dried foods
- Biscuits
- Cereals and cereal bars
- Crisps
- UHT milk
- Tea/coffee
- Long-life juice
- Pasta sauce
At the end of the October, all collected items will be delivered to local food banks to be given to those most in need.
Lindsay Sands, Head of Property Services at Equans said “We know that people are struggling with the cost of living at the moment and this is our way to do something positive to help the community. Many people have unwanted tins of food or sauces in their cupboards so rather than letting them sit there until they go out of date, we would love it if you could donate them at Market Garden so we can redistribute to those in need through local food banks.”
