Services of Remembrance are happening across North East Lincolnshire this weekend to give people the chance to come together to remember Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The services in our main towns are:

  • St Andrews, Immingham at 10am
  • Peter’s Cleethorpes 3pm
  • Civic Service at Grimsby Minster at 6pm.

Additionally, there will be two opportunities for people to take part in national moments of silence in the coming days.

A National Moment of Reflection will take place at 8pm on Sunday 18 September to mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and reflect on her life and legacy. This will take place across the UK the night before the State Funeral, and be marked by a one-minute silence.

Locally, there will be a short service at Remembrance Gate in Cleethorpes, led by the Armed Forces Major Events Team, and attended by the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Cllr Steve Beasant. This service will start at 7.45pm, and include the National Moment of Reflection at 8pm. Alternatively, you could mark the silence privately at home, with friends and family, out on doorsteps or the street with neighbours.

As part of the State Funeral at Westminster Abbey in London, there will be a national 2-minute silence at approximately 11:55am on Monday 19 September. This will be preceded by a sounding of the last post during the service.

Essential council services that are operational will be paused for the 2-minute silence on the day.

The Books of Condolence will remain open at Grimsby Town Hall from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday 20 September if you wish to sign them. They will then be closed and included in our archives for permanent preservation.
