A180 works are reaching the final stretch with the installation of the central reservation barriers to make sure traffic can travel safely at 50mph.
There are various stages to this:
Solid concrete pads with steel bars in them must be created first to hold the barriers. This needs wood “shuttering” to create the concrete plinth to be built on site first, then the steel framework built before the concrete is poured inside the shuttering.
This then needs to cure for at least 48 hours before anything more can be done.
Once the pads have been built and cured to maximum strength, the shuttering can be removed and the barriers can start being installed.
The confirmed programme for the next few weeks is as follows:
Tuesday to Thursday this week – workers will be on site creating wood formers and installing the steel bars ready for the concrete pour.
Friday and possibly Saturday if needed – concrete will be poured into the formers and left to set.
From Monday 9 November – specialist contractors will start to install the central reservation barriers. Once these are installed, the road will be safe to open up fully.
