4:35 pm, Wednesday, 24th May 2023 - 2 years ago

General

The remains of the Buck Beck Beach Bench are still smouldering after Tuesday night’s fire. The fire could spread quickly if the flames reach the nearby dunes.

Resort management officers have been at the site today and cordoned off the remains. Please stay away from the area.

If you know who started the fire or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, please report it to Humberside Police on 101 and quote the reference ‘Operation Seabird’.

Cleethorpes saltmarsh is an internationally important habitat protected by law. Fires can cause irreparable damage to the sensitive environment.

We are fortunate to have an internationally important habitat on our doorstep.

It’s important that we all work together to look after the saltmarsh and the wildlife that inhabits it.

People visiting the saltmarsh and dunes can help by staying on the main footpath and keeping their dogs under control.

Crossing the saltmarsh damages the protected habitat and there are hazards such as wide, hidden creeks.
