Councillors and democracy

In preparation for the elections on Thursday, 7 May, North East Lincolnshire Council is holding a face-to-face briefing session for prospective candidates who are considering standing for election, as well as their election agents.

This year, there are elections in each of our 15 wards.

The briefing will be held on Thursday 19 March 2026 at 5:30pm, Grimsby Town Hall, and will cover the following:

  • election timetable
  • Qualifications and disqualifications
  • Nomination process
  • appointment of election agents
  • Voter ID
  • candidates’ expenses.

If you are thinking of standing as a candidate, particularly if you are new to the nomination and election process, you are strongly urged to attend the briefing sessions which will last for approximately one hour. You will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of each session.
