Carriageway improvements to start in Waltham next week

A programme of carriageway improvements on High Street and Barnoldby Road in Waltham will be starting next week.

Works will start on Monday 24 May to carry out some minor kerbing works on Barnoldby Road at the access to The Limes Retirement Housing, between High Street and Brian Avenue. This part of the works will take three days to complete and will be carried out each day between 9:30am and 3:30pm. Traffic marshalls will be on site maintaining access, but no other traffic management will be required at this location.

A programme of carriageway resurfacing and road marking works will then take place on High Street, between Barnoldby Road and Ings Lane, and Barnoldby Road, between High Street and Brian Avenue, from Tuesday 1 June. This will be carried out under a full road closure between 7pm and 6am each night.  

The programme for the carriageway resurfacing is as follows:

  • Tuesday 1 June – Remove (plane out) existing carriageway surfacing.
  • Wednesday 2 June – Adjust / replace existing damaged iron works.
  • Thursday 3 June – Adjust / replace remaining existing damaged iron works. Carriageway works between Fairway and Church View.  ­
  • Friday 4 June – Adjust / replace remaining existing damaged iron works.
  • Saturday 5 June and Sunday 6 June – No works.
  • Monday 7 June – Carriageway surfacing.
  • Tuesday 8 June – Carriageway resurfacing and road marking works.
  • Wednesday 9 June and Thursday 10 June – Road marking works.

Footway access will be maintained throughout the works for residents requiring access to their properties within the closure area. Access for emergency vehicles will also be maintained.

To allow the works to be carried out safely, parking will be suspended on High Street during the closure hours.

Residents and businesses within the works area have been informed.

Advanced warning signs and a signed diversion route will be in place during the closure.

The programme is subject to change and the works are weather dependent.

The works will be managed and overseen by the council’s regeneration partner, ENGIE, with contractor, Specialist Surfacing Ltd, carrying out the works.
