North East Lincolnshire Council and its delivery partner, Equans, are carrying out carriageway resurfacing and civil works on Chichester Road, between Taylor’s Avenue and Hardys Road. Works began on Monday 29 July and will be completed on Friday 30 August.
The works will be carried out in two phases, as detailed below:
Phase one – Civil works (Monday 29 July – Friday 16 August) – The first phase of works will include replacing damaged road gullies, drainage channels, kerbs and the installation of new tactile paving. These works will be carried out under temporary traffic control between 7:30am and 6pm. Phase one is scheduled to be completed on Friday 16 August.
Phase two – Carriageway resurfacing and road markings (Monday 12 August – Friday 30 August) – The second phase of the project will consist of carriageway resurfacing and road marking work, which will start on Monday 12 August and is scheduled for completion on Friday 30 August. To enable the works to be carried out and ensure the safety of contractors, a 24 hour road closure will be in place for the resurfacing. To minimise the impact, the work will be completed during school holidays and the works have been split into three sections (please refer to the road closure extents plan which highlights the sections referred to below):
- Section 1 – Taylor’s Avenue to Wesley Crescent
- Section 2 – Wesley Crescent to Bishopthorpe Road
- Section 3 – Bishopthorpe Road to Hardys Road
Week 1 (12 August – 16 August)
- Monday 12 August – Section 1, Section 2 and Section 3
Works being undertaken: Carriageway surface course removal on Chichester Road.
Traffic Management: 8am to 6pm – Full Road Closure on Chichester Road between Taylor’s Avenue and Hardys Road.
Vehicular access for residents will be maintained from Hardys Road only (under marshal control). On street parking will be suspended for the closure period. Footway access will be maintained at all times.
- Tuesday 13 August 8am to Friday 16 August 6pm – Section 2
Works being undertaken: Deep excavation and reinstatement of existing carriageway.
Traffic Management: 24 hour full road closure between Wesley Crescent and Bishopthorpe Road.
Access to Wesley Crescent, Caenby Road and Billinghay Court will be maintained from Taylor’s Avenue (under marshal control). Access to Bishopthorpe Road, Ludborough Way, Burley Avenue, Eskham Close, Waltham Grange, Alvingham Avenue and Marshchapel Close will be maintained from Hardys Road (under marshal control). Access to property driveways on Chichester Road within the section extents will not be permitted during the closure due to the depth of the excavation being undertaken. On street parking will also be suspended within the section extents for the closure period. Footway access will be maintained at all times.
Week 2 (19 August – 23 August)
- Monday 19 August 8am to Thursday 22 August 6pm – Section 3
Works being undertaken: Deep excavation and reinstatement of existing carriageway.
Traffic Management: 24 hour full road closure between Bishopthorpe Road and Hardys Road.
Access to Bishopthorpe Road, Ludborough Way, Burley Avenue, Eskham Close, Waltham Grange, Alvingham Avenue and Marshchapel Close will be maintained from Taylor’s Avenue (under marshal control). Access to property driveways on Chichester Road within the section extents will not be permitted during the closure due to the depth of the excavation being undertaken. On street parking will also be suspended within the section extents for the closure period. Footway access will be maintained at all times.
- Friday 23 August – 8am to 6pm – Section 1
Works being undertaken: Deep excavation and reinstatement of existing carriageway.
Traffic Management: 24 hour full road closure between Taylor’s Avenue and Wesley Crescent.
Access to Wesley Crescent, Caenby Road and Billinghay Court will be maintained from Hardys Road (under marshal control). Week 3 (27 August – 30 August)
- Tuesday 27 August – 8am to 6pm – Section 1 and Section 2
Works being undertaken: Final carriageway resurfacing.
Traffic Management: Full road closure between Taylor’s Avenue and Bishopthorpe Road.
Access to Bishopthorpe Road, Ludborough Way, Burley Avenue, Eskham Close, Waltham Grange, Alvingham Avenue and Marshchapel Close will be maintained from Hardys Road (under marshal control). During the road closure, there will be no vehicular access to Wesley Crescent, Caenby Road and Billinghay Court.
- Wednesday 28 August – 8am to 6pm – Section 3
Works being undertaken: Final carriageway resurfacing.
Traffic Management: Full road closure between Bishopthorpe Road and Hardys Road.
During the road closure there will be no vehicular access to Bishopthorpe Road, Ludborough Way, Burley Avenue, Eskham Close, Waltham Grange, Alvingham Avenue and Marshchapel Close.
- Thursday 29 August 8am to Friday 30 August 6pm – Section 1, Section 2 and Section 3
Works being undertaken: Red gateway surfacing and Road Marking reinstatement.
Traffic Management: Full Road Closure between Taylor’s Avenue and Hardys Road.
Vehicular access will be maintained for residents from Hardys Road only (under marshal control).
Please be aware of the following:
The junction bell mouth of Aldrich Road and Chichester Road will be closed for the duration of the works.
During the works, on street parking will be temporarily suspended within the closure extents. Please support the contractor by not parking vehicles on the carriageway or footway in the works location to ensure a safe working area is maintained and to avoid delaying the works programme.
Should you need to use your vehicle during the day when the road closure is in place, please ensure it is moved to an appropriate location outside of the closure area before the road closure commences.
If you have a planned holiday during the construction period (Monday 29 July – Friday 30 August), please ensure your vehicle is parked on your drive or at an appropriate location outside of the closure area. If the works are delayed due to parked vehicles, additional days of road closures will be required to enable the works to be completed. Footway access will be maintained at all times.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained throughout the works. Although every effort will be made to minimise disruption during the works, please be aware some elements will be noisy.
